I like cooking, and I love eating. But intellectually I’m drawn to food because of the way it bridges human culture and the natural environment.

There’s a new podcast that talks about food in just that way. It’s called Gastropod. It’s the work of Cynthia Graber and Nicola Twilley, two food journalists who met while participating in the 11th Hour Food and Farming Journalism Fellowship at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.

“We’re both passionate about understanding food and agriculture through the lens of science and history,” Graber said. “We’re trying to ask, what’s scaleable, what’s sustainable, what’s scientifically reasonable?”

The first episode is all about utensils, and how cutlery changes the way we eat. And Graber promises they have already begun producing podcasts that dive into the meaty issues surrounding food and the environment. You can find it here, or follow @Gastropodcast on Twitter.
