That there is power in the wind is not a new discovery, man has been using it for thousands of years.

What most people don’t realize is how much experimentation has been going  on in this century.

I’ve had to break it down into 2 parts, of which this is the first.

We’ve heard a lot of talk lately from deniers that cold temperatures are proof that there is no such thing as global warming. It looks like it will be an annual event for me to remind people that winter still follows summer. Since deniers seem to want to believe the warming thing is all a lie, perhaps a little review is in order.

If you’ve poked around on the web for information on climate change, you probably heard the meme – “32,000 scientists signed a petition debunking global warming.” 32,000 of the world’s leading scientists? Is that really true? Well, no…

Because in the 70′s, Deniers will tell you, All climate scientists believed an ice age was coming. Those crazy climate scientists! Why can’t they make up their minds?

But is that really true?
Maybe a little historical perspective is in order.

Climate deniers have been making a lot of noise about a set of stolen emails from one of the world’s leading climate centers, The Universtiy of East Anglia.

The spin they’re putting out is that the emails reveal what they always suspected, an evil global conspiracy.  They’re wishing really hard that these emails say something that they don’t.

One of the most contentious of climate crocks is the role of water vapor in climate change. And climate deniers are always trying to fog the issue. But don’t be scared, Crock of the Week is here, to help make sure you don’t get sucked in.

The 2009 ice melt season has just been completed at the northern polar cap, and observations confirm that the decay of the arctic ocean ice cover is continuing a steady decline.

The last three melt seasons represent the 3 lowest summer ice areas in the satellite record.
Satellite measurements of total summer ice surface have been on a downward slope for 3 decades. In 2007, ice area suffered a spectacular and unpredicted slump. In the last two years, summer expanse rebounded from the catastrophic collapse, to mere precipitous decline.

Early in September 2009, at a gathering of experts on global climate change, one of the world’s most respected and experienced climate modelers, Mojib Latif, made some observations on climate, media and human nature.

The message seemed clear.

natural variations in the long term warming might be misinterpreted,

by the media. out of ignorance, or malice.

Climate deniers were quick to take Latif’s remarks, and begin

doing exactly that.
