Lest you think electric cars are exclusively for snoozefest humans, we’d like to introduce you to the Tesla Model S P85D, badass car of the future. The $120,000 electric beast comes with a 221-horsepower front motor and a 470-horsepower rear. You may believe that’s one too many horses for your own good, but Tesla disagrees — emphatically.
To prove this stampede of an automobile is sure to show you a good time, Tesla is doing some good ol’ fashioned showing off. The car is fitted with an “insane” button, which engages both rear and front engines at the same time — taking riders from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. The button does what it came to do, rendering most humans terrified, speechless, or royally ticked at the insanity of it all. In the video above, Brooks Weisblat, of DragTimes, takes unsuspecting passengers on a joy ride — making some nearly wet themselves.
If you — like myself and grandmothers across the country — find yourself appalled that this Brooks fellow may have put this poor people in harm’s way, know this: Weisblat insists that the rapid acceleration is as safe as can be. Here’s what he told Mashable: “It’s very safe, the car has all-wheel drive and is very stable the entire time. We’ve even done 0-60 in 3.3 seconds in the rain with no tire spin at all.”
We don’t know whether to trust you, Brooks — if that’s even your real name. But we have no doubt that this model may win some dragsters over to the electric side — and for even one less obnoxiously loud sports car on the road, we thank you.
