The living rock just got the feature film it deserves with Blood Glacier, a German horror flick out Friday in select theaters and video on demand. Finally global warming gets to chill in the supervillain lounge with Cillian Murphy and Willem Dafoe!

Blood Glacier’s premise: A climate observation technician working in the German Alps sees red juice gushing out of a glacier as it melts, which is NOT the pretty sight the Germans want the visiting environment minister to see. But soon it’s clear that the bigger problem is mutated wildlife that has been infected with the blood, including killer bird-insect hybrids and a psychotic mountain goat.

The New York Times calls it “enjoyably committed and splattery,” and over at Salon, Andrew O’Hehir is quite a fan:

[The film] has built up quite a cult following … Yes, this is gruesome Euro-horror about the climate apocalypse and the possible end of life on earth as we know it, but it’s also fun for the whole family.

Hmm. Not sure about that, but if a low-budge, climate-themed version of Alien, The Fly, or The Thing rocks your socks and you have a spare 98 minutes, you might wanna check it out. We’ll just be over here, sleeping with our eyes open.
