Crime and PunishmentEco-sabotage lookout found guilty of two counts of arson for 2001 blazePosted at 3:05 PM on 06 Mar 2008A federal jury has found 32-year-old Briana Waters guilty of two counts of arson for her role as the lookout in a 2001 blaze at the University of Washington's Center for Urban Horticulture. Of more than a dozen people connected with the radical Earth Liberation Front and arrested in connection with various property crimes in the West, Waters was the only one who went to trial rather than plead guilty. She faces five to 20 years in prison. Waters maintained her innocence throughout the trial and her lawyer plans to appeal, saying that the recent Washington development fire linked to radical environmentalists may have affected the jury's decision.source: Associated Press |
