Happy World Contraception Day! Is your birth control working for you?
626 days ago, I got a Mirena IUD.
And today, I’d like to provide an update: Still not knocked up! Would recommend, 10/10.
But if you hate your Mirena IUD — many do! Every uterus is a snowflake — there’s a new option: Kyleena, just approved by the FDA last week, carries less than half the dosage of levonorgestrel (that’s the hormone that blocks sperm by thickening cervical mucus) than the Mirena. Along with the Liletta, Skyla, and non-hormonal Paragard, Kyleena will be the fifth IUD available on the market.
In the IUD realm, we’ve got more and more options — and they mostly seem to be named for sexy space strippers, which is exactly the kind of tenant I’d like in my cervix!
But when it comes to actually putting that birth control to work? Well, I’m praying for all of us.
