Stuff that matters

no place like gnome

Life on this Colorado farm is about more than plants.

A mischievous gnome from Scandinavian legend is the inspiration behind Kris Holstrom’s Tomten Farm, where permaculture gardening is about building relationships, not just raising kale.

This short film from The Perennial Plate gives us a glimpse into the farm’s internship program, which has provided a space for more than 100 people to test drive their green thumbs over the past 21 years.

“Permaculture has three main ethics,” Holstrom says. “Care of people, care of the earth, and then they call it fair share, or reinvesting surplus back into the first two.”

I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine there being a surplus of those mouthwatering greens. Is it lunchtime yet?
