Green cred: <\/strong>If you\u2019ve wondered if breakfast is really the most important meal of the day, what\u2019s the new kale, or why bitter is the redheaded stepchild of flavors, the Gastropod podcast<\/a> has the answer. In each episode, reporters Twilley and Graber delve deep into science, history, and the culinary dark arts to bring us closer to our food.<\/p>\n

Since debuting in September 2014, they\u2019ve earned plaudits from press (Wired<\/em> named them one of the top 11 scripted podcasts to subscribe to), awards, and a hungry, food-forward fanbase.<\/p>\n

Twilley and Graber even mine their own tastes for inspiration. \u201cThe cilantro episode came about because\u00a0a listener wanted us to cover it,\u201d Graber says. \u201cI despise cilantro.\u201d \u201cI love it!\u201d Twilley says.<\/span><\/p>\n

What to expect in 2016:<\/strong> A live show at Boston\u2019s Museum of Science.\u00a0\u201cThey came to us, and we\u2019re only the second podcast they\u2019ve ever invited \u2014 the first was Radiolab,\u201d Graber says. \u201cWe\u2019ve hit the big time,\u201d jokes Twilley.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first rule of talking about climate is: Don\u2019t talk about climate:<\/strong> \u201cClimate change is a big nebulous thing — it\u2019s not something people can hold on to,\u201d Twilley says. \u201cIt\u2019s why we [take on] these very tangible things — like, \u2018here\u2019s seaweed\u2019 — instead of \u2018climate change\u2019, and show how it relates.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adds Graber: \u201cWe\u2019ve done topics that connect with sustainability a lot — microbes, seaweed, coastal waters, ocean acidification — all that is huge.\u201d<\/p>\n
