Dallas Goldtooth puts pipeline fights center stage."},"content":{"rendered":"<aside class=\"g50-profile__stats-block profile__stats-block--profile-363603 \">Organizer, Sketch Comedian<br \/>\nChicago, Illinois <br \/>\nAge: 33<\/aside>\n<p>Growing up, Dallas Goldtooth tagged along at protests with a lot of \u201crabble-rousers.\u201d His father, Tom, is executive director of the grassroots <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ienearth.org\/about\/\">Indigenous Environmental Network<\/a>. As an adult, Goldtooth has turned his upbringing into a career as an effective organizer and activist. He was part of bringing together a broad coalition of indigenous people, Farm Belt landowners, and big green groups that helped convince President Obama to reject Keystone XL.<\/p>\n<p>[pullquote]\u201cNot only are the most important issues happening at a grassroots level, but also the most important solutions are coming from the grassroots level.&#8221;[\/pullquote]<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s currently helping lead the charge against the Dakota Access Pipeline, which he fought for years before it gained national attention. In recent months, Goldtooth\u2019s Facebook Live posts and tweets have offered visceral portraits of stand-offs between the activists, called \u201cwater protectors,\u201d and police. One <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/dallasgoldtooth\/videos\/vb.1216853\/10105868266548603\/?type=2&amp;video_source=user_video_tab\">live video from Oct. 27<\/a> garnered over 4 million views. \u201cWith the power of social media and independent journalism and just solid badass organizing, these messages are getting out,\u201d he says, \u201cand they\u2019re spreading to the masses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When he\u2019s not fighting on the frontlines, Goldtooth travels with his all-indigenous comedy troupe, the 1491s. Their sketch-comedy videos explore topics like environmental activism and the commoditization of Native culture.
