For the first time ever, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has deemed a lab-grown meat product safe for human consumption. The agency completed its evaluation of California-based Upside Foods last week and took no issue with the company’s claims that its chicken meat is “as safe as comparable foods produced by other methods.”

World leaders have agreed to a climate reparations fund for vulnerable countries. The agreement reached at COP27 will create a landmark fund to pay developing countries for “loss and damage” caused by climate change and “offers hope to vulnerable communities all over the world who are fighting for their survival from climate stress.”

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved a plan to remove four hydroelectric dams from the Lower Klamath River. Returning the Lower Klamath to its free-flowing state will make it easier for salmon to reach their upstream spawning grounds and will restore the health of a river that is culturally important to Native peoples in the area.
