As demand for aluminum grows, a new report calls for tighter pollution controls and more recycling. Aluminum is a critical clean energy material, the production of which creates some 1.2 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

The European Court of Human Rights heard a case this week brought by six Portuguese youth, who argued that Europe’s governments are not doing enough to prevent climate change. The court is expected to issue a verdict in the first half of next year.
