The United States government is redoubling its efforts to restore bison populations to Native American lands. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland released an order last week establishing a federal working group that is charged with creating a “shared stewardship plan” to increase bison populations on lands managed by the federal government and tribal nations.

The sustainable aviation company Universal Hydrogen completed its first test flight of a hydrogen-powered aircraft in Moses Lake, Washington. The plane, nicknamed Lightning McClean, was a 40-passenger regional airliner — the largest aircraft to fly on a hydrogen fuel cell to date. Hydrogen is a fuel that produces no greenhouse gases when it is either burned or fed into a fuel cell to produce electricity.

More than 100 of the United Nations’ 193 member states have now signed onto a climate resolution calling for the International Court of Justice to weigh in on what governments are legally obligated to do to mitigate climate change and protect people from its impacts. Experts say the court’s opinion could influence climate lawsuits and international negotiations in favor of vulnerable countries.
