Invention of the decade saves water AND gets dudes to wash their hands
Humans, sometimes you are so smart. You come up with ideas so simple and elegant that we can’t help but think: Why, in the whole ever-loving world, did no one think of this before??
For instance, the sink urinal. (Click that; there’s even an animation.)
This is fricking genius. It is a contraption that not only saves water but may actually convince dudes to wash their hands after peeing — bringing love, happiness, and greater hygiene to highway rest stops everywhere. NPR talked to Kaspars Jursons, the clever man who came up with this idea:
The idea is about function and consumption. You are washing your hands in the sink on top of the urinal, and the same water that’s running is also used to flush. You don’t have to use water twice, like when you use the urinal and wash your hands in separate sink.
And we can go back to shaking hands with men without wearing rubber gloves, which we’ve been unwilling to do since finding out that a full 15 percent of them — that’s basically 1 out of every 7 guys you touch — don’t wash their hands at all after using the loo.
