That's All Wells and Good

Wells Fargo becomes biggest corporate buyer of clean energy

Banking giant Wells Fargo announced yesterday that it has bought renewable-energy certificates to offset 40 percent of its current electricity usage over the next three years. Amounting to 550 million kilowatt hours of wind power a year, it is the largest-ever corporate purchase of renewable energy in the U.S., beating out previous record-holder Whole Foods Market's purchase of 458 million kilowatt-hours earlier this year. The country's fifth-largest bank estimates that it will be preventing 380,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year. "The more you can help produce renewable energy sources, the less dependent we will be on oil and natural gas, which could in turn lower energy prices," says a Wells Fargo corporate properties director. And the good PR ain't too shabby either.

Who Wants Ice?

Gee, no more Artic Ice.  Wow...and I just love Artic Ice...don't you?   I mean, that's where I love to live -- on a 200 foot thick ice sheet -- it's so productive and fertile!

Do these Climate Chicken Littles ever consider that for the vast majority of the population, they would rather not have snow or winters?   That they will use less energy with warmer weather?   That vast resources in Russia and Canada will now become available including fertile habitable land?

Am I the only one who "likes" global warming?  I truly do -- I'm not being sarcastic.   I really think that we've been living in a very long Ice Age and that human activity, health and prosperity will explode with even a modest increase in warm weather per year -- it's already happening in my opinion.

amazing

Pombo's difficulties are shocking news. Just this summer he was expected by reliable political analysts (such as the LATimes) to coast to victory. And the district has been reliably Republican for about as long as most Californians can remember. Interestingly, the Tracy Press story pointed out, more or less unprompted, that five Tracy residents have died in the war in Iraq, and more than fifty are currently serving.

Interesting...

There have been a number of articles lately about problems in California agriculture.  Seems that farmers can't hire enough workers, and they tend to blame the party in charge in Washington.  Some of this may be spilling over to Pombo in combination with scandals, Iraq and work by environmental groups.

However, no one is singing yet...
