  • Alaska natural-gas pipeline is far from a done deal

Photo: triciaward In her speech at the Republican National Convention last week, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin touted her role in moving forward a plan for a natural-gas pipeline from Alaska’s North Slope to the Lower 48. The GOP veep candidate declared, “That pipeline, when the last section is laid and its valves are opened, will […]

  • Gourmet’s Barry Estabrook on Palin, mining, and a sustainable salmon fishery

Wasn’t McCain initially trying to pitch Sarah Palin as some sort of maverick who stands up to Alaska’s dirty industries on matters of principle? Whatever. According to an excellent post by Barry Estabrook on Gourmet magazine’s blog, Sarah Barracuda has been baring her fangs on behalf of Alaska’s mining industry, even when its actions imperil […]

  • Resentment in partisan politics

Reacting to this post, Reihan Salam (who majors in good blogging and minors in even better dancing) says there is enough fear, resentment, and moral arrogance to go around. He says arguing over who’s the bitterest of all is "unedifying." Your honor, I object! I wrote said post mere hours after Romney assaulted my logic […]

Turns out McCain doesn’t care about the greatest threat we face

All you need to know about McCain’s core beliefs on climate change: The 72-year-old McCain named a global-warming-denying, Big Oil Super-Shill as his vice presidential nominee. His much anticipated acceptance speech never once mentioned the gravest threat facing the health and well-being of the nation and the world. After walking away from a mandatory cap-and-trade […]

  • McCain’s VP pick has a mixed record on supporting renewables in home state

McCain VP pick Sarah Palin has a record of being both a friend and foe of Big Oil in her home state of Alaska. But she’s also made a point of voicing support for renewable and “clean” energy sources. Flashback one week to Palin’s big convention speech in St. Paul: “Starting in January, in a […]

  • It’s time to break the American addiction to oil

This post is by ClimateProgress guest blogger Bill Becker, executive director of the Presidential Climate Action Project. —– When George Bush declared that the United States is addicted to oil, it may have been the most insightful moment of his presidency. It is a cruel but apt analogy, and that’s why the big push for […]

  • Palin to oversee energy in McCain administration?

OMFG: "Sarah Palin to be energy independence chief in John McCain’s government" I’m not sure how much to credit this — it’s the Brit press, after all, and tied to a single, unnamed "McCain campaign official." But it wouldn’t surprise me. They’ve somehow managed to pitch a woman whose sole claim to expertise on energy […]

    Finally

Obama spokesman calls Palin’s “Bridge to Nowhere” claim what it is: a lie. Was that so hard? UPDATE: See also:

  • Van Palin

Say what you will about Palin, but this is awesome: There was no mention of the baby’s condition. Instead, she joked about giving her child the middle name Van, since Van Palin would sound sort of like the hard rock band Van Halen. The kid’s name is Trig Paxson Van Palin. Rawk!
