fail stampPhoto: Hans GerwitzThe Kyoto Protocol officially kicked into gear in 2005–no thanks to the U.S.  In the half-decade since, greenhouse-gas emissions have kept on soaring.  Hopes were high for the Copenhagen Climate Conference to produce an agreement that might really get the job done.  Hmm, that didn’t pan out either.  All in all, the ’00s were not a good decade for global climate treaties.
