Saturday is the night to engage in your moon-related activities – blow it up, write your name on it, release your singing marmoset creatures, whatever — because you’ll have a pretty good view. It’s a “supermoon,” where the moon is closer to earth in its orbit than normally — and it’s going to be the biggest, brightest full moon of 2012.

This supermoon won’t be as majestic as the one on March 19, 2011, which was the biggest in 18 years. (The photos here are from that supermoon, which showed up like a big blurry thumbprint when I tried to take a picture but clearly I have an inferior camera.) It’ll be 16 percent brighter than average, though, so you can still expect impressive nighttime vistas and extra-intense werewolves.
