So, the Gulf oil spill has been going on for more than a month now. The open wellhead is spewing thousands of gallons of oil every day, and in that classic the-cure-is-worse-than-the-disease way, BP has been dispersing the rogue oil with highly toxic chemicals. Eleven rig workers are already dead. Now the lives of hundreds of species, and the livelihoods of thousands of Gulf residents are in peril. No surprise there’s lots of spill video out there. Here’s some of the best from one of the worst ever environmental disasters.
SPILL CAM: The live gulf oil spill feed
Watch oil spilling in real time thanks to Congressman Ed Markey who got BP to open its live “Spill Cam” feed to the public. Available on the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming’s website, the Spill Cam has been getting slammed, and the traffic surges often shut it down. If only the same could be said for the gushing well.
Watch the oil spill.
Dolphins with mops, anyone?
Saturday Night Live brings us a message from the trio that ruined our Gulf: BP, Transocean and Halliburton. SNL’s proposed leak fixes sound a lot better than what BP has tried so far. As they say, club soda gets everything out.
Spill, baby, spill!
Here is Master of Chortles Stephen Colbert on the Best Texas Tea Moments: Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. “No one cares more about the environment than oil companies! A lot of people love Earth, but how many actually penetrate it?”
Sea turtle swims through BP oil
Oh. This is sad. A beautiful sea turtle surfaces through a slick of reddish oil and dispersant. Even a shell won’t protect you from everything. To help support the efforts of the Humane Society in the Gulf, please go here.
Ok, back to funny
Jon Stewart rages against the oil turmoil — in song. “Dear President Obama, we’re really upset. Everything’s dead in my shrimp trawlers net.”
Oil addicts
A thought-provoker from GOOD magazine about oil and our addiction to fossil fules which provide 85 percent of the world’s energy. With music by Justice. Watch and cry even harder over spilled oil.
Guitar for the Gulf
If there were an award for the greatest oil spill video, this would take home the statue! One guy making a statement on his electric guitar. Jimi Hendrix, eat your heart out.
