Since I’m over here at the Green Jobs, Good Jobs summit, perhaps I should post on one of the top green jobs questions on everyone’s mind here: When is the Senate going to finally get around to confirming Obama’s green-jobs-promoting nominee for Labor Secretary, Hilda Solis?
There has been an anonymous hold on her nomination for the past few weeks — thrown up by a Republican on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which is overseeing her confirmation.
But Solis will finally get a vote in the HELP committee today, where the Democratic majority is expected to recommend her nomination to the full Senate. But exactly what will happen when her confirmation goes to the floor is anyone’s guess, as a united GOP minority could still filibuster the Solis nomination.
UPDATE: Solis’ confirmation vote has been postponed. This was announced shortly after it came to light that her husband had recently paid off $6,400 in tax liens on a Los Angeles auto shop that he owns. A spokesperson for Sen. Ted Kennedy said the vote was postponed in order to give the administration time to look into the tax issue and report to the committee.
