Jimmy Buffet has joined the crusade of 22 environmental groups who are threatening to sue the feds and the Florida state government for failing to protect endangered manatees from being killed by boats. Collisions with boats kill more manatees than any other known cause; 66 were wiped out last year, and this year may see even higher casualty numbers. The coalition of enviro groups says it’ll file suit on July 20 unless talks begin on ways to protect the approximately 2,500 remaining manatees. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), who had a chat with Buffett about this issue last month, is said to be a manatee fan who wants to work things out without going to court.
