Happy Thanksgiving, Gristians!

As someone who spends a great deal of time on the internet, I’m all too aware that most of what passes for dialogue on the web consists of slogans and nostrums, hurled back and forth with maximum vitriol. Virtually everyone I know who maintains a website has the same lament: the intelligent voices in the community get drowned out by trolls and ideologues. Maintaining a decent signal-to-noise ratio in comments and forum boards is a mysterious alchemy, and examples of success are few and far between.

So this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for you, the Grist community. You’d be hard-pressed to find a smarter, more thoughtful, more respectful group of folks gathered around one website. Every day I learn something from the discussions that go on here. After time spent traveling around the net, it’s always a pleasure to come home.

Thanks y’all.
