Sen. Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.) is joining forces with enviros, ski bums, actor Harrison Ford, World Bank Pres. James Wolfensohn, and a host of Wyoming residents to fight plans to build a nuclear waste incinerator in Idaho. Two environmental groups plan to file suit today against the Energy Department, seeking an injunction to stop construction by arguing that federal laws were ignored in making plans for the incinerator. The facility, which would be built by British Nuclear Fuels and would compact and incinerate nuclear-contaminated waste and hazardous chemicals, is some 90 miles upwind from Yellowstone National Park, the Teton mountains, and Jackson, Wyo. Jackson residents have raised nearly $500,000 to fight the incinerator.
