Texas Gov. George W. Bush has raised 15 times more money from oil and gas interests than Vice President Al Gore, a total of $1.54 million for his presidential campaign. Bush’s biggest supporters over the course of his political career have been employees of Enron Oil Company, and at least 25 of his top fund-raisers are connected to the oil business. Some observers suggest there’s a connection between Bush’s monetary ties to the oil industry and his quiet on the heated issue of rising gas prices and the possibility that oil companies have been price gouging. Enviros fear that Bush would do the oil and gas industry’s bidding to the detriment of the environment if he won the presidency.
