There is perhaps a flaw in the premise of this Wired video series called “What’s Inside”: Sometimes, you don’t want to know what’s in the substance you’re about to consume. For instance, I could have lived without knowing that there are cockroach pheromones in coffee. (By coincidence! But still.)
On the other hand, it is nice to know that there are cavity-fighting alkaloids in every cup o’ joe. Sure, I wanted to break something when she said, “That’s riiiight, coffee is an antioxidant.” But it’ll be worth it the day I get to tell some smug somebody who frowns on my dental hygiene, “You know, I’m basically brushing my teeth right now,” while slurping a latte.
