Google is speaking our language: “Wheels only get you so far,” Brian McClendon, VP of engineering for Google Maps, wrote on the company’s blog last week. (We couldn’t agree more.) “There’s a whole wilderness out there that is only accessible by foot.”

That backpack with the green camera sticking out of it weighs 40 pounds, so it’s easy enough to carry around on hiking trails or while skiing. The battery runs for a day. In short: Lucky Google employees get to hike around all day and call it work, so that you can know what to expect when you get out on the trail.

Or you can skip the travel plans and stroll around the Grand Canyon from the comfort of your climate-controlled office. Not quite as majestic as the real thing, but you don’t risk dehydration or snake bites.
