A coalition of seven enviro groups is urging skiers to boycott many of the top ski resorts in the Western U.S. and is pointing people instead toward resorts that it says are eco-friendly. In a first-of-its-kind report released yesterday, the Ski Area Citizens Coalition ranked 60 resorts in nine states on 11 environmental issues, including wildlife protection, water use, snowmaking, and plans for expanded development. “Polls demonstrate by and large that skiers are an environmentally concerned group,” said Gavin Noyes of Save Our Canyons of Utah. “Now skiers will have the information they need to act on their environmental ethic.” Some in the ski industry criticized the report as biased.
