GOP presidential hopeful George W. Bush is winning over big business with help from a college chum, Thomas Kuhn, head of the Edison Electric Institute, an electric utility trade group. Trade associations have traditionally kept quiet during presidential nomination battles, but this year they are speaking out early and declaring their allegiance to Bush. Lobbyists for oil producers, logging companies, paper manufacturers, and chemical companies have announced their support, and money is pouring in from corporations and CEOs to Bush’s campaign. Enviros are likely to seize on this trend as another example of Bush’s anti-environmental leanings.
