I have to say, I kind of wish I worked for Grist as envisioned by these French artists between 1899 and 1910. “Ditch your gas-guzzling personal prop planes!” I’d be saying. “You can get to work much more efficiently on the whalebus!”
Public Domain Review collected a bunch of turn-of-the-century visions of the year 2000. As far as transportation goes, there seems to be basic agreement that most people will move either through the air or under the sea. Both domains include personal and public transit. For your undersea commute, there’s the whalebus, but also these individual seahorses:
