Grist reporters and guest brains address Leo’s 11th Hour

Superbad may have topped box office sales this past weekend, but Leonardo DiCaprio’s eco-documentary The 11th Hour, which opened in theaters around the U.S. and Canada on Friday, showed moviegoers what’s truly superbad: the state of our environment. The film features dozens of eco-experts talking about what’s gone wrong on the planet and how we can make it right. Two of them — ecological economist Herman Daly and environmental health expert Theo Colborn — expand on their insights in guest essays in Gristmill. Adam Browning offers his take on the film itself. And reporter Kate Coe tries to find out whether The 11th Hour was a union film, making people mighty uncomfortable in the process. Who’s superbad now?
