Today is Car Free Day in the U.S., a holiday that will probably be celebrated by fewer people than Talk Like a Pirate Day. But we might still end up more observant than China, which had No Car Day yesterday — and celebrated with a giant traffic jam.

No Car Day was really just Business As Usual Day in downtown Qingdao, where a blogger reported seeing a single bicycle amid the usual snarl of traffic. Traffic is bonkers there every day and yesterday was no exception. In a way, though, a miserable traffic jam is pretty good advertisement for the benefits of going without a car.

Above is a sample of what No Car Day looked like in Qingdao, which is probably a lot like what it'll look like in most of the U.S. What are the chances we can do better next year?
