The Democratic National Committee is going on the attack against George W. Bush with TV ads that lambaste the governor’s environmental record in his home state of Texas. One ad on the air in Washington state shows Seattle’s Space Needle being engulfed by air pollution. “Take a deep breath and imagine Seattle with Bush’s Texas-style environmental regulation,” says the ad’s narrator. Another ad criticizing Bush’s green record is set to hit the airwaves this week in Florida. Meanwhile, Bush’s running mate, Dick Cheney, went on the attack himself yesterday, criticizing Al Gore’s proposed tax credits for buyers of energy-efficient technologies. Speaking at a recreational-vehicle plant in Yakima, Wash., Cheney said, “You have a solar panel on your house, you get tax relief. If you drive a solar-powered car, you get tax relief. That’s goofy.”
