As you’re rushing in to grab that last bag of frozen cranberries and a couple wrinkly sweet potatoes, as your impatience balloons while waiting in that endless line for the cash register, and as you’re about to rage at the cashier who is out of paper bags, step back, breathe, and remember the human toll of your food choices.
It’s the auspiciously timed International Food Workers Week, and y’all best respect. Food workers deserve justice. They are treated pretty poorly year-round, to say nothing of what we put them through during the holiday season. They’re all free range, organic, and not genetically modified, and this is the perfect time of year to thank them. And to clamor for raising the minimum wage. And to not to shop for holiday food stuffs at Walmart. Amen!
