A common way to talk to kids about uncomfortable topics involves making up an elaborate metaphor — like those tired old birds and bees. Which is why Lil Mama, the diva behind your hopefully-not-forgotten 2007 anthem “Lip Gloss,” is dropping some words of wisdom about safe sex masked in allegory about breakfast food in her new song, “Sausage.”

The metaphor is pretty transparent — the hook is literally, “You better use a condom if you taking that sausage.” But credit where credit is due to the ironically-named Lil Mama: There’s no room for subtlety when promoting safe sex for youth! (Who are — surprise — having sex.)
