    On Thursday, Dave attended a press screening of An Inconvenient Truth, so expect a review of it soon. And on Tuesday, May 2nd, he'll be chatting with the star of the film, Al Gore. If you have any burning questions, just let Dave know.

    In related news, David Remnick of the The New Yorker published a glowing review of his own, in which he writes: "An Inconvenient Truth is not the most entertaining film of the year. But it might be the most important." Word.

  • Yahoo! also celebrates Earth Day

    AOL is not the only Internet giant celebrating Earth Day. Yahoo! is as well. And while Yahoo! only has 10 ways to reduce climate change (to AOL's 11 planet-saving tips), Yahoo!'s dress-your-avatar-in-Earth-Day-gear trumps AOL's buddy icons. (By the way, check out the handsome virtual devil to the right.)

    And all you Ask Umbra readers go make your momma proud: Yahoo! is awarding a trip to the FIFA World Cup for people who answer Earth Day questions, such as this one: Why does it matter if the seas rise and the ice caps melt? How will that affect my children and me anyhow?

    And taking advantage of their acquisition of Flickr, visitors can check out a collection of environmental photos.

  • AOL celebrates Earth Day

    AOL is celebrating Earth Day with a special website that features 11 ways to "save the planet & your wallet" (ubiquitously sponsored by GM's "Live Green, Go Yellow" campaign).

    Topics include: driving, wear, home, yard, appliances, careers, investing, travel, eating, partying, and kids.

    Several of the categories are accompanied by 30-second video clips featuring Peter Horton, Bradley Whitford and, of course, Laurie David (she's everywhere!).

    And for all you AOL instant messenger users, Earth Day buddy icons!

    And they even list Gristmill under their green blogs recommendations. Gee, thanks AOL!

  • A broadband TV channel for environmental films

    Environmental media is blooming on the internets these days. The folks over at Treehugger are keeping on schedule by pumping out a new video each week. The latest piece is on organic and biodynamic wines.

    Along the same lines, I discovered that Daryl Hannah has launched a weekly video blog called dh love life, where she'll cover issues like biodiesel to green building.

    And late this week I got word of green.tv (a domain I wish I grabbed myself):

    Move over Current TV, lookout Treehugger TV ... here comes Daryl TV! Actually, that's dh love life, Daryl Hannah's weekly video blog, which covers a range of green topics.

    Now playing is a piece on vegan junkfood. Previous episodes covered biodiesel and a natural products expo. Upcoming episodes will feature green building and a skater/farmer (organic I presume).

    I'm hooked.

  • Current TV: Make your own Yaris TV ad, and more

    So you think you've got the chops to produce a television commercial after making your own Chevy Tahoe ad? Well, let's see how well you do when you have to shoot and edit it yourself! Still up to the challenge? If so, head on over to Current TV where they're seeking submissions for viewer-created ads for the Toyota Yaris.

    What would you do with your Yaris? Now, you don't have to own a Yaris to take on this project. Just make a V-Cam commercial about what you would do with your Toyota Yaris. The operative word here is "you." Make it personal, engaging and compelling. Where would you go? Who would you take? What would you take with you? Whatever you do, have fun and let your freak-flag-fly. There. Now go make something.

    Now, before you get all subversive, check this out: the Yaris supposedly gets up to 40 mpg on the highway, according to the Toyota website. Oh yeah, if your piece airs, you earn $1,000.

    Kevin Kjonaas was just convicted. What was his crime? Setting up a website -- a website with details on companies that support animal testing, and some raucous message boards where some dumb things were said.
