Grist leadership is pleased to announce it has hired Sachi Kitajima Mulkey as a reporter covering the intersection of climate change, policy, politics, and culture. Mulkey previously worked as a news fellow at Grist in 2024.
“Sachi is a talented reporter and writer with an innate sense of how to make climate change feel deeply personal through her coverage,” said Grist Editor-in-Chief Katherine Bagley. “We’re so excited to have her back.”
Mulkey will help anchor Grist’s daily and weekly coverage as driven by the news cycle, delivering sharp analysis and clear context for readers trying to understand what just happened — and why it matters. Based in New York, she returns to Grist from a fellowship at The New York Times covering climate change. She has written for The Nation, Atmos Magazine, the Japan Times and others. She has interned for Radiolab and previously worked as the lead visual editor for Food Unfolded. She has an undergraduate degree in animation from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and a master’s in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley.
“I’m thrilled to be rejoining Grist as a reporter,” said Mulkey. “I believe climate change is the biggest story of our time, and it’s an honor to be part of such a nimble and impressive team of journalists dedicated to telling it.”
