The pigs are being taught to swim and dive because in China, athletic pork can fetch a price as much as three times the price of other pigs. Pigs who can swim, according to farmers, have better immunity, increased appetite, and better-tasting meat. As long as the pigs enjoy it as much as they seem to (and if it were stressing them out, it would probably have the opposite result), this is a good example of why small farming can lead to better-quality food. Who’s got time to teach an industrial-farm pig to swim?
