
This photo (click to embiggen) comes from NASA, and it looks like a moonscape, but its origins are purely terrestrial. It’s actually a shot from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, showing the frozen-solid region around Lake Superior and northern Lake Michigan. It only looks like some dead planet because it is so inhospitable to human life right now.
