The Colorado high school junior spent five months making her prom dress out of 5,114 soda can tabs (and no, before you ask, she didn’t drink 5,114 sodas by herself — she collected them over two years). When I was a kid we used to lace these onto our Chucks for some reason, but I’ve never seen anything this elaborate.

It’s actually not clear from the video whether Regan undertook her project as a message about recycling, a crafting challenge, an attempt to stand out at prom, a bid for a spot on Project Runway, or some combination thereof. But regardless, this is one cool teenager and the dress is definitely a masterpiece of upcycling. And it’s also handy as chain mail if the prom gets unexpectedly transported to Westeros! Win-win.
