1. Bo, you do know diddly

In honor of Global Love Day (serious!), we’re spreadin’ the love this week. And where better to start than with Bo Derek? The notorious “10” was just named U.S. special envoy on wildlife trafficking. Which we’re sure is unrelated to her wild times with Bush’s new chief of staff.

  2. Tribe, tribe again

We love daydreaming about escaping to some remote utopia — usually Saskatchewan. But some people go beyond daydreams: the Brits behind tribewanted are looking to populate an eco-colony on an island in Fiji, and a group of Danes is working on plans for H2PIA, the world’s first hydrogen-powered community. Sure, but do they have Mounties?

  3. We love to read and it shows

Love is in the air. Or, in the case of one urban design firm’s vision, in the airplane. LOT-EK has proposed using scrapped fuselages — which are hard to recycle and rarely reused — to construct a new library in Mexico. Hey, throw in a few stewardesses flight attendants handing out warm nuts and cocktails, and we’re booked!

  4. That’s, like, more than a thousand

Randy Newman loves L.A. (he loves it!), and we’re starting to come around, too: the city’s new mayor wants to plant a million trees to help make Tinseltown the “greenest and cleanest big city in America.” It’ll take more than a few palms, but it’s a start. After all, as urbanites are figuring out: trees = good.

  5. Don’t be a skata hata

Who doesn’t love a good alterna-transit story, especially when it involves hottie sk8er boiz, uh, grinding the half-pipe? We were stoked to hear about Recycle Your Brain spreading eco-awareness among young skaters. Said one, “It’s healthy. You’ll live longer too — more time for skating.” Right on, dude. We’re gonna go pop an ollie now. Or something.
