But the activist group broke its silence today when members posing as reps from the Coca Cola company convened a faux press conference in Copenhagen’s City Hall Square.
Their original plan was to commandeer the Hopenhagen Globe, that giant blue-green ball parked in the square. Uing their own projections, soundtrack, VJ and signature chutzpah, the Yes Man hoped to hack the Hopenhagen Globe and turn the 65-foot icon into an anti-Coke billboard.
Unfortunately – for the Yes Men, at least – Danish police foiled the plan after about 20 seconds of projection.
Production of the world’s favorite soft drink uses lots of water, and locating its plants in some of the more water-challenged parts of the world is what got Coke in the Yes Men’s crosshairs.
The purpose of tonight’s global takeover, according to the Yes Men, was “to inform people about Coke’s water policy . . . and to inspire vows from ecologically and ethically minded consumers to stop buying Coke products.”
The Yes Men did get their message across, just not on such a grand 65-foot scale.
